INCLUSION

FREE TRAINING & RESOURCES TO SUPPORT TEACHERS, TRAINEE TEACHERS AND SCHOOL STAFF TO PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY PE CURRICULUM FOR ALL YOUNG PEAOLE.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids For All Inclusive PE Training (IPE) equips qualified teachers with tools and practical ideas to fully include all pupils in curriculum Physical Education, and ensure that all are appropriately challenged and able to show ‘rapid and sustained progress.’

Through the training teachers will improve their confidence, knowledge and skills in:

  • Enabling the inclusion of all pupils
  • Challenging and progressing all pupils
  • Being able to apply this in your own school environment

IPE has been developed by teachers for teachers, and is primarily (though not exclusively) aimed at qualified teachers in mainstream schools. It explores barriers to engagement, inclusion and strategies to overcome these, including the use of STEP and the inclusion spectrum. Participants will also gain access to exclusive online resources that build on the training content, they will be able to cascade their training to others at their school, enabling them to also access available resources.

TOP Sportsability has three main aims:

  • to provide physical activity and sport options for young people with high support needs;

  • to create a vehicle for the inclusion of disabled and non-disabled young people together;

  • and to provide a basic introduction to a wide range of sports and activities in support of the School Games programme.

Free online resource

TOP Sportsability is a free online resource for schools and offers practical advice to teachers, learning support staff, and other sports practitioners. It consists of video clips and downloadable content showing ideas and strategies around the inclusion of young disabled people in physical activity and is divided into three sections:

1.    User Manual- shows how to use the resource and establishes basic principles and models of inclusion;

2.    Disability Sport & Adapted Games section - highlights the sports featured in the original TOP Sportsability plus some new activities; and

3.    Sports Adaptations section - consists of traditional 'mainstream' sports adapted for the widest possible range of abilities.
