Key Stage 1:

Supporting teachers to develop fundamental movement skills, agility, balance and coordination with pupils both independently and with others. Teachers will develop confidence in supporting pupils to engage in competitive and cooperative physical activities whilst challenging themselves to do the best they can in physical education through gymnastic progressions.

Will include:
SKILLS: Travel - running, jumping, rolling in different shapes. Safe landing, balance, agility, coordination and core strength development.

TEAM and SEQUENCE: work cooperatively with others, develop trust, learn sequences, patterns, shapes and artistry through movement.

CORE: Strength, suppleness and safety will feature throughout

Key Stage 2:

Developing teachers’ confidence in developing a broader range of pupil’s skills and using them in different ways to encompass communication, collaboration and competition. Pupils will be encouraged to evaluate their own progress and that of others. This will support pupils understanding of how to improve performance through their own success and challenges.

Will include:
SKILLS: Travel - running, jumping, rolling and turning around different axis, rebound, using equipment and apparatus.

TEAM and SEQUENCE: working independently and in groups, developing and memorising sequences of skills using hand apparatus, low and high apparatus.

CORE: Strength, suppleness and safety will feature throughout

Progress and achievement

  1. Support can be given to prepare teachers and pupils for the Key Steps Gymnastics Competitions and School Games 2017. Interschool competitions can help select the best team in the area to go forward and represent at Leeds and West Yorkshire levels.

  2. British Gymnastics Proficiency Awards can be achieved through this work giving opportunities to achieve Badges, Certificate and medals through a Nationally recognised scheme endorsed by British Gymnastics.

  3. It is possible to set up after school clubs for pupils to attend to work on their skills, badges or towards competition or display work.
