MSSA - Tag Rugby Development Day

DATE: 25th May 2017

YR GROUP - 5/6

VENUE: Morley Rugby Club

SCHOOLS ENTERED: Churwell, Morley Vic, Hill Top, St Francis, Westerton, East Ardsley, Seven Hills & Gildersome Primary.

The first Year 5/6 MSSA Tag Rugby Festival was held at Morley RUFC in the glorious sunshine of Yorkshire summertime. Over 80 students from Churwell, Morley Victoria, Hill Top, St Francis, Westerton, East Ardsley, Seven Hills and Gildersome took part in full day packed of tag rugby. The morning session allowed students to learn and refine new skills in an activity carousel lead by sports leaders from Woodkirk Academy and Leeds City College, preparing them for an action packed tournament in the afternoon. Schools were split in to two pools of four, with each team playing every other team in their group. Some excellent passing, running and tagging was on display which pushed results in the tables very close. On the completion of the group stages, teams played against teams from the opposing group for a 4th, 3rd and 2nd place play off and then the 1st place final. The 4th place play off resulted in a draw between Hill Top and St Francis, the 3rd place play off was narrowly won by Morley Victoria over Seven Hills, East Ardsley egded out Gildersome in the 2nd place play off and Churwell ran out convincing winners in the final against Westerton. A huge well done to all involved and we hope this becomes a permanent fixture in the MSSA calendar.
