Julie Fletcher - East Ardsley

I am so VERY proud to tell you all about MSSA U11- Autumn Football Tournament, which took place at Bruntcliffe Academy.

My brilliant football team were absolutely superb and proved it by winning the competition in excellent style!

The annual tournament is always attended well and this year twelve schools took part. They were split into three groupings, playing games nine minutes long.

Within the first minute of our first game against Hill Top, East Ardsley Player -J smashed a free kick into the goal from 10 yards out. Another great run down the right wing from East Ardsley Player- J a few minutes later, was crossed to East Ardsley Player- J who scored. 2-0 win and three points.

Our second game against Churwell was just out of this world and the best I have seen my team play. Within the first 30 seconds, East Ardsley Player- L ran down the left wing, knocking it past their keeper. During the nine minutes of the game, all the boys were just brilliant. It wasn’t an easy game as Churwell were strong opponents, but the boys played their socks off, even when they pulled one back.

Literally 10 seconds before the final whistle, East Ardsley Player- L scored one of the most amazing goals I’ve ever seen; from just past the half way line, he took advantage of their keeper being out of his goal and he belted it into their net. It was absolutely awesome!! We were so happy with a 2-1 win.

Our third game was against Driglington. Another tricky match but the boys definitely had the advantage and managed a 0-0 draw.

After coming first in our grouping we were then through to play Morley Victoria in the semi finals, playing 5 minutes each way as the wind had become quite strong. After ten minutes, with a 0-0 draw, it had to be penalties to decide who went through to the final.

East Ardsley Player- L went first and scored, MV’s player missed their goal which gave us advantage. East Ardsley Player- H , A and M then powered their goals in, with MV matching us. Victoria’s fourth penalty was brilliantly saved by East Ardsley Player- H and we were through to the final against our local rivals - Westerton.

The boys were so thrilled to be in the final and got stuck in straight away. With shots on both end of the pitch, the match could have gone either way. Luckily for us, a cracking goal from East Ardsley Player- H was the winner, and we were crowned champions!

Myself and the boys were absolutely ecstatic! I am so pleased for them, they truly deserve it.

A MASSIVE well done to all the boys:
