Well done to everyone that took part in the swimming gala at John Charles Centre this morning. It was great to see the 12 schools taking part and enjoying all the races. It was also great to see some fantastic swimming. The competition seems to get tougher every year!

Thank you so much to the Woodkirk Sports Leaders and James for organising them. They were fantastic this year and ensured that the gala ran smoothly and finished on time, regardless of the slightly delayed start.

MSSA - U11 Girls Football Competition 2018

Report from East Ardsley - PE SL

On Tuesday, 6th November, it was the girls turn to represent the school at football, in the annual U11s Girls’ Football Tournament which was held at Woodkirk Academy. Eight schools took part in games 7 minutes long.

The first game against Gildersome was completely dominated by our girls and they were unlucky to only finish with a 1-0 win ( a fabulous goal from East Ardsley Player- I), it could easily have been 5 or 6.

During the course of the next six games, the girls played brilliantly with superb teamwork and determination, they also became more confident as the games went on.

Not all the games went in our favour and we ended the tournament having won two, drew two and lost three. A special mention to Paige for her absolutely superb left footed goal, after taking on the keeper one-on-one.

Well done to all the girls, you all had lots of fun and were great competitors for the other schools. Thank you to East Ardsley Players L and F for playing in a tournament with girls a lot older than themselves, you did yourselves proud.

The Year 4 tag rugby event, held at Morley Rugby Club, was attended by 9 primary schools in the Morley School Sports Association.

Primary school students were taught the fundamentals of tag rugby in a morning session lead by students from Woodkirk Academy and Leeds City College. This was followed by an afternoon tag rugby tournament which was divided into two pools with the winners of each competing in the final, overall winners Birchfield beat East Ardsley in the final to maintain an unbeaten record. WPPP- Dodgeball

DATE: 17th May 2017

YR GROUP: KS2

VENUE: Woodkirk Academy

SCHOOLS ENTERED: Birchfield, Westerton, Blackgates, East Ardsley Primary

The Woodkirk Primary PE Project Dodgeball tournament came a week after the MSSA Dodgeball competition and it was fantastic to see a number of different students attending each event. Four schools brought five teams, Birchfield A and Birchfield B, Westerton, Blackgates and East Ardsley, with over 50 students in attendance. The competition ran as a round robin with two rounds and each round delivered different winners meaning places for the final were hotly contested. After 10 games of dodgeball, East Ardsley, Blackgates and Birchfield B were equal on points and took a joint bronze place, leaving Westerton and Birchfield A to go head-to-head for overall winners. Both teams played tactically and with precision, however Westerton had the edge and were crowned Woodkirk Primary PE Project Dodgeball winners. A massive well done to all students, the sportsmanship on show was a credit to all schools involved.

YR GROUP - KS1

VENUE: Woodkirk Academy

SCHOOLS ENTERED: Gildersome, Birchfield, East Ardsley, Blackgates and Hill Top Primary

'The KS1 seated volleyball competition was a huge success; 41 Year 1 and 2 students from Gildersome, Birchfield, East Ardsley, Blackgates and Hill Top attended the event. This was the first time all of the students had played seated volleyball but many adapted very quickly to the game. Lead through a series of skill activities by Woodkirk's Sports Leadership Academy students, teams were equipped with the rules and techniques required to take part in games. School's played each other in a friendly round robin format and it was a pleasure to see all students enjoying competitive games and using skills taught by Woodkirk's Sports Leaders. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable event for all involved and an activity primary school's will be taking back to their PE lessons.'

Over 60 Year 1 and 2 students from Birchfield, Blackgates, East Ardsley, Gildersome and Westerton attended the annual Woodkirk Primary PE Project Multi-skills Festival for what was an energetic and enjoyable evening for all involved. School's worked together in their teams to try out a number of multi-skill activities including; target throws, sprinting, speed bounce and more. For many students this was their first sporting event but I can imagine it won't be their last. The evening finished with a team relay, where schools went head-to-head in an obstacle course; the overall winner, of the only competitive event of the evening, was Gildersome Primary. A huge well done to students, teachers and parents for making such festivals possible.

SCHOOLS ENTERED: Blackgates, East Ardsley & Westerton Primary

East Ardsley, Blackgates and Westerton took part in a 'Handball Tri Series' which provided exciting and entertaining fixtures before East Ardsley became overall winners with an impressive unbeaten run. Each school played each other twice, the second round of fixtures saw closer games, with students becoming familiar with the rules and skills required for handball. For many this was their first experience of the sport, but hopefully not their last!

WPPP- Gifted & Talented Day

DATE: 16th Nov 2016

VENUE: Woodkirk Academy

SCHOOLS ATTENDED: Birchfield, Blackgates, East Ardsley & Westerton Primary

Woodkirk Primary PE Project hosted its annual 'Gifted and Talented Pentathlon' for the first time on its new 4G facility. Birchfield, Blackgates, East Ardsley and Westerton attended the event bringing with them identified talented primary school performers, of both genders, in PE. The 34 primary school students participated in training sessions, lead by Woodkirk's Leadership Academy students, consisting of football, tri-golf, athletics and table tennis. Upon evaluation students identified students to perform in afternoon challenges, where two students from each school competed against others in each of the aforementioned disciplines. To round the day and the fifth event off, students competed in a 'team sprint challenge' using speed gates to calculate the quickest overall school. All in all, a great day for all despite Novembers challenging weather conditions. A big thank you as always to Woodkirk Academy's Sports Leaders and those primary schools that attended.
