Hunslet St Mary's, Clapgate, Ingram Road., Low Road, Windmill and Beeston. Primary

Game, Set and Match!

The JESS Cluster Primary Sports Programme started 2019 in style with the mini-tennis tournaments taking place at the John Charles Tennis Centre for the first time. On night one it was Hunslet St. Mary’s winning their third straight competition as Clapgate narrowly pipped Ingram Road to take the Silver. Night two was even closer with countback on head to head having to separate Low Road and Beeston, with Low Road emerging victorious. Once again the Sports Leaders of CJCA were essential in each event, umpiring every match and ensuring each event ran efficiently and professionally. As always it is important to thank all the staff and children who attended from our JESS Cluster Primaries as well as John Charles Tennis Centre, in particular Rob Ratcliffe, for organising two excellent events!

MSSA- Basketball Competition 2019

DATES: 18th Jan 2019

SPORTS LEADERS: Morley Academy

VENUE: Morley Academy

SCHOOLS ENTERED: St Francis, East Ardsley, Birchfield, Asquith, Hill Top, Seven Hills, Westerton & Gildersome Primary

A huge thank you to all the schools who attended the Basketball event last week at TMA. It was amazing to see 80 students all participating. They were all fantastic & played with excellent sportsmanship and enthusiasm.

The schools were separated in to two pools & the results of the pool games are below.

Pool 1

St Francis - 3 points

East Ardsley - 6 points

Birchfield - 9 points

Asquith - 6 points

Pool 2

Hill Top - 8 points

Seven Hills - 5 points

Westerton - 8 points

Gildersome - 3 points

Therefore with Westerton & Hill Top on the same points the number of baskets scored were calculated which meant Hill Top went through to the finals against Birchfield. The final game was close with Hill Top being crowned champions scoring 4 - 1. A huge well done.

Pool 1

St Francis - 3 points

East Ardsley - 7 points

Birchfield - 9 points

Asquith - 5 points

Pool 2

Hill Top - 7 points

Seven Hills - 7 points

Westerton - 7 points

Gildersome - 3 points

Pool 2 showed that 3 schools all finished on the same number of points so the number of baskets overall each school scored was how they could be separated. This meant that Westerton went through to the finals against Birchfield. The game was another fantastic final with Birchfield being crowned champions with a 4 v 2 win.

Thank you again for attending - 8 teams was fantastic!!

MSSA - Football Tournaments - U11 2018

Julie Fletcher - East Ardsley

I am so VERY proud to tell you all about MSSA U11- Autumn Football Tournament, which took place at Bruntcliffe Academy.

My brilliant football team were absolutely superb and proved it by winning the competition in excellent style!

The annual tournament is always attended well and this year twelve schools took part. They were split into three groupings, playing games nine minutes long.

Within the first minute of our first game against Hill Top, East Ardsley Player -J smashed a free kick into the goal from 10 yards out. Another great run down the right wing from East Ardsley Player- J a few minutes later, was crossed to East Ardsley Player- J who scored. 2-0 win and three points.

Our second game against Churwell was just out of this world and the best I have seen my team play. Within the first 30 seconds, East Ardsley Player- L ran down the left wing, knocking it past their keeper. During the nine minutes of the game, all the boys were just brilliant. It wasn’t an easy game as Churwell were strong opponents, but the boys played their socks off, even when they pulled one back.

Literally 10 seconds before the final whistle, East Ardsley Player- L scored one of the most amazing goals I’ve ever seen; from just past the half way line, he took advantage of their keeper being out of his goal and he belted it into their net. It was absolutely awesome!! We were so happy with a 2-1 win.

Our third game was against Driglington. Another tricky match but the boys definitely had the advantage and managed a 0-0 draw.

After coming first in our grouping we were then through to play Morley Victoria in the semi finals, playing 5 minutes each way as the wind had become quite strong. After ten minutes, with a 0-0 draw, it had to be penalties to decide who went through to the final.

East Ardsley Player- L went first and scored, MV’s player missed their goal which gave us advantage. East Ardsley Player- H , A and M then powered their goals in, with MV matching us. Victoria’s fourth penalty was brilliantly saved by East Ardsley Player- H and we were through to the final against our local rivals - Westerton.

The boys were so thrilled to be in the final and got stuck in straight away. With shots on both end of the pitch, the match could have gone either way. Luckily for us, a cracking goal from East Ardsley Player- H was the winner, and we were crowned champions!

Myself and the boys were absolutely ecstatic! I am so pleased for them, they truly deserve it.

A MASSIVE well done to all the boys:

YR GROUP - 3-6

SCHOOLS ENTERED: Asquith, Birchfield, Blackgates, Churwell, East Ardsley, Gildersome, Hill Top, Seven Hills, Morley Victoria & Westerton Primary

This tournament was re-arranged because of bad weather and ended up taking place on Wednesday 23rd May.

Altogether 10 schools from the Morley area attended with twelve teams in total as Gildersome and Birchfield both entered two. Each squad was made up of a minimum 8 players from years 3-6, boys and girls, which meant that there was at least 96 children participating, with a lot of staff and parent spectators in tow.

Very keenly contested; in the End Birchfield A and Asquith met in the final with Birchfield coming out on top as winners.

The weather was kind and I'm fairly sure everyone who was there enjoyed the event.

Thanks very much

SCHOOLS ATTENDED: Low Rd, Windmill, Clapgate, Ingram, Beeston, New Bewerley, Park View & Sharp Lane Primary

Tuesday saw a total of 8 primary schools attend the JESS Cluster Touch Rugby Festival held here at Cockburn John Charles Academy. This was a fantastic event with some excellent rugby and teamwork skills on display.

Another Music Federation Derby saw Windmill Primary emerge victorious in a play off final against Low Road to claim first spot. Low Road were certainly not disgraced to be taking home the silver medals as they narrowly missed out to their neighbours. Also in a a battle for 3rd and 4th place were Beeston and Clapgate, with Clapgate taking the final medal place.

A great night for the primary schools involved with the JESS Cluster. Well done to all.
