CRICKET IN THE CLASSROOM
Cricket in the Classroom is specifically aimed at offering Key Stage 2 children (Years 5 and 6) the opportunity to attend and use the facilities that Yorkshire County Cricket Club has to offer. The day includes a classroom based session with curriculum specific activities, an introduction to cricket practical session with the day rounding off with a behind-the-scenes stadium tour.
10:00am - The practical element of the day is to serve as an Introduction to Cricket with the emphasis being on team work and enjoyment, however the session is suitable for all abilities.
11:30am - The classroom session is split into two. For the first 60 minutes (approx.) the children work through a specially designed Cricket in the Classroom work book that is based on the national curriculum. The book focuses on key subjects such as numeracy, literacy, geography and history, all delivered through a cricket theme. The books are suitable for children of differing academic levels with the inclusion of ‘Vinny the Viking’s Brain Busters’ which are there to challenge the most advanced learners. To round off this part of the day, the children will take part in an interactive cricket quiz.
1:00pm - The children (and teachers) are given a chance to rest and eat their packed lunches.
1:30pm – The class will then be taken to the Official YCCC Museum, where they will start the behind-the-scenes Stadium Tour which may include access to areas of the stadium usually off limits to the general public!
2:30pm – End of day.
Cricket in the Classroom can accommodate up to 60 students on Wednesdays and up to 60 students on Thursdays during term time. For the first half of the day, the group will be split into two slots; slot 1 and slot 2. This means slots can be purchased per 30 students (1 slot). The cost per slot (30 students) is £150 which includes all three parts to the day. If a school were to purchase 1 slot, it may be that another school will be there on the day. Each school will be separated (slot 1 and slot 2) and come together for the stadium tour.
Both the 2015/16 and 2016/17 academic years have been sell outs, with the YCF receiving excellent feedback from students and teachers.
"All the children were non-stop talking about it when they returned and all day on Friday- that takes some doing to keep 56 children interested and having fun all day and then to talk about it after!"
"They loved it! Fun, informative, pacey and with great staff who were enthusiastic and knowledgeable."
"Once again, it was a fabulous day and the children really enjoyed it."
